Holy Resurrection Byzantine Catholic Church

Holy Resurrection Byzantine Catholic Church in Columbus, OH is an active church that follows the Byzantine Catholic Liturgical Calendar.

We welcome parishioners and prospective church members to the church at 4611 Glenmawr Ave. in Columbus, OH.

Holy Resurrection was established in the Columbus area in 1978. We observe a full liturgical calendar marking the great seasons, feasts and events of Christianity. Couples retreats, Bible study and many other activities are available throughout the year.

We are a Melkite Catholic Church – an Eastern Catholic Church. The Melkites, or Byzantine Rite Catholics of mixed Middle Eastern and Greek origin, are the descendants of the early Christians of Antioch, Syria, of the first century A.D.

Christianity was established in this area of the Middle East by St. Peter before he traveled on to the imperial city of Rome.

Today the term Melkite is used to refer to those Catholics whose ancestry is Middle Eastern and who follow the Byzantine Tradition in worship, theology, and spirituality.

Note: The Byzantine liturgical year starts on September 1 and ends on August 31. The movable feasts are determined by the date of Pascha (the feast of the Resurrection). There are two systems currently in use to calculate Pascha - Gregorian (Western) and Julian (Eastern). Roman Catholics, most Byzantine Catholics in America and some Orthodox (notably those in Finland) follow the Gregorian date. Some Byzantines in America and most Byzantines and Orthodox elsewhere follow the Julian date. In the year AD 2010 both the Gregorian and Julian Paschal dates coincide, so the dates of Pascha and the other movable feasts are the same.
